It could be a book you’ve read or a drawing you did or a movie you watched or a science project for school.

- Don’t leave your e-mail address. You can, but I won’t e-mail you if you win.
Here’s mine: I remember when I went to Iowa to visit a close friend and his family (a house full of cowboys! It was awesome). Hannah and I went for a week. He had two horses, Lady and Cadillac. Now Cadillac picked favorites—and Levi (the guy who owned him) was his favorite (his brother Lorn was, however). We got to watch him get broken by a horse breaker. It was amazing! He just jumped up onto him and Cadillac went crazy for about an hour before he settled down… later Lorn took me on a ride around his block (which equates to several square miles of absolutely NOTHING) and we got our speed up to… about 25 or 30 miles an hour. Lady got tired after a while so she wouldn’t go quite as fast :\ but it was fun. It felt like flying.
Anyway. Good luck!

My daughter LOVES horses, so when we moved to the country she fell in love even more, so much that we bought her one! The horse we bought was not healthy, she came from the person who was teaching my daughter, (bad place) but anyway...we broke, trained and fattened up our TWH and now have a beautiful horse. Guess what now daughter thinks I need one!

I had a pony when I was a small girl.. She was stubborn. In all actuality, her name was "trouble" in Hawaiian. Smart move on my dad's part, huh? LOL She didn't listen, and when you tried to ride her, she wouldn't move! At all! Just stood there..

When I was younger and a girl scout (I know haha funny) we used to go to a special camp in the summer. We were able to choose our "electives" and I'd always wanted to ride a horse. So obviously I chose equesttrian studies! Honestly the first part wasn't the greatest mucking stalls yuck (and let me tell you after scoopin out horse poo I will never complain about picking up after the puppy). But then I got to ride Midnight and she was a beauty I sooo thought I was in "Black Beauty" or something. (Which I was pretty obssesed over at the time)Let me just say this it's not as easy as it looks in movies or on TV. Apparently I am not a very good assertive leader because 25 minutes on the trail my horse decided to wander away from the group. I had to dismount her and lead her back to the group which sounds easy enough unfortunately I was ankle deep in mud (it had rained the previous day) and walking like a penguin! I swear my bum has never known such a workout and then to top it off my next "elective" was rock climbing talk about pain in the arse! I haven't rode a horse since (I think I'll leave it to the chivalrous knights in stories) but I don't think I'll ever forget the experience or the days following it!
ReplyDeleteI can remember riding a neighbors horse when I was young. It was the first time I had been on a horse. There is no doubt in my mind that the horse knew I was a Newbie. As soon as I was on it trotted to the opposite end of the pasture and then proceeded to eat some grass. It wasn't until 45 minutes later that someone decided to come looking for me. I was glad when the ride was over. I've been riding on horses since but it's only been on the rent for an hour model.
ReplyDeleteI've only had one expierence on a horse, I had to be under 5 and My mom and Dad took me. I was on my own horse and he kept stopping to drink water and all the people on their horses were leaving me behind. I started crying my eyes out. They never did take me again. I'm sure I would have loved it if I'd been a bit older.

My parents use to send me away to summer camp every year. I hated going to camp except for one year they sent me to a horseback riding camp. I was assigned a horse and learned how to take care of her, how to put the bridle and saddle on and how to ride. I was responsible for her for 2 weeks and I spent every moment I could with her. Her name was Dolly. Unfortunately, the camp was family run by an elderly couple and they retired the following year, at least that's what my mom told me. I was heart broken.
ReplyDeleteI married a guy from Kentucky...is it any wonder that my experience is with horse racing? Going to the track with hubby, seeing those beautiful thoroughbreds coming out of the paddock, learning how to bet (and win some)...it's all such fun. The Kentucky Derby is a big event for us. We're out of state, but we still gather to watch and record the race, mint juleps in hand.
ReplyDeleteWhile I was pregnant with my first baby, we went on a picnic. There were horses to ride in a group with a guide. My husband and I sorta fell out because he didn't want me to ride the horse. I was too far along. I almost cried watching everybody else ride.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this book.
I have to pick one? I've been riding for over a year, and was involved with horses long before that!
ReplyDeleteWell, I'll tell you about my first bareback riding experience. It was sometime last year, and I was on a horse named Jake. Jake hates people, hates horses, pretty much, Hate should have been his name. He doesn't like to listen and he loves playing tricks. But, if you'll believe it, he is a good horse.
It was at the end of the lesson and my instructor told us to take off our saddles and ride bareback. I was excited, as I am always for new, challenging things. My mom on the other hand, watching from the door, was terrified (she worries way too much).
I rode Jake in small bursts because I always felt like I was about to fall off. He didn't much want to stop for me either. Then I was getting better and thought I was balanced enough to go a little bit longer. When I began to feel not-so-safe, I tried to make Jake stop but he wouldn't. I literally slid off him. Wanna know what was worse? It happened right in front of my mom! She was so scared!
Jake stopped right away and looked at me the way horses do when you've done something so silly they can't comprehend it. I just stared up at him, on my back, wondering what just happened! Everyone but my mom was laughing that night.
I'd love to win this book.
@Rheanna: Haha. I had some fun times at horse camp for girl scouts too. The horses didn't want to listen to me much either...
I was on a trail ride and the particular horse I got was shorter than the rest, so smaller strides. But also he had a mind of his own and did what he wanted, so when I gently kicked him on his sides to go forward faster, he stayed at his same slow pace. Sometimes he would just stop. Let me just say I was about 100ft behind the trail the whole time so I missed out on hearing the guides stories about the area. It was an interesting experience. Sometimes horses can be stubborn or are having a bad day or are just plain tired. I love horses and out of all I've ridden, this was my favorite horse because he was stubborn like me and did what he wanted regardless of what anyone thought or expected of him.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago, I was riding my horse, Libby, around the dirt roads by my house, and I was riding bareback. When I was almost done with my ride, I decided to get the mail (our mailbox was about a half mile from our house). Libby was not cooperating with me, so I could not get her to stand next to the mailbox. Finally, I jumped off of her to get the mail. After that, I needed to get back on, but without a saddle that is pretty much impossible for me because I can't jump for nothing. Anyways, I led Libby next to a fire hydrant, so I could jump back on her. Right as I was about to get on, she decided to take a step away from me, which caused me to fall under her. Sometimes I swear she is laughing at me because she waited until I got out from under her to run down the street all the way home leaving me stranded.
ReplyDeleteI've never ridden a horse. My youngest daughter went to a 2 week Girl Scout camp for the horses.
ReplyDeleteWe had 2 horses growing up, Silver and Goldie. We loved them!
ReplyDeleteI have ridden a horse, but as a child I loved the story Black Beauty and I love to see horses. A friend of mine had a horse and I always wanted one, perhaps someday I will learn to ride one :)
